CORK, THE NATURAL ESCAPE

Lounge space GENCORK & BLACKCORK at London Design Fair 2023

Cork is the material that designs the space between light and shadow, closed and open, ceiling and floor, walls and furniture, in a constant challenge to the human capacity of being silent but in dialogue with others, and always connected to the source: Nature

Following the strategic partnership with the London Design Fair for the next three years, SOFALCA is presenting the first of three acts that will promote cork, sustainability, technology and creativity, all in a single project: Cork, The Natural Escape. A cork lounge framed within the London Design Fair, the largest and most influential design fair in the United Kingdom. A space to mingle in, open to architects, designers and the general public, between the 21st and 24th September at the emblematic Truman Brewery, at the creative heart of Shoreditch design district.
The project is the brainchild of the multi-faceted studio [ SPECTROOM ], resorting generative patterns from GENCORK (Design by Le Brimet) and furniture from BLACKCORK (Design by Toni Grilo). A lounge space conceived to redefine the balance between the natural genesis and digital processes of conception, where formal aesthetic and formal experimentation creates a place of escape and encounter, both individual and collective.
The Portuguese brand, Delta Q, which is also the sponsor of the event, offers us the excellent aroma and taste of its coffee in capsules, providing visitors with new experiences. It’s with this setting that all senses are awakened, that the materiality of cork transforms itself into the matter that gathers this multi-sensorial and exploratory concept and steers us to a return to our origins, that invites the reflection upon the genesis of the human being, also transforming the way Design creates a symbiosis with nature.
