Generative Cork Experiences

The c(AI)rcle IV at Habitare: Artificial Intelligence meets sustainability.

“Habitare, the leading furniture, design, and interior event in the Nordics, offers five days of inspiration and creative experiences. The event showcases both new and old, highlighting a variety of brands and designers. The theme of the 2024 Habitare is “Layers”, aiming to celebrate the layered and lived-in feel of homes, spaces, and objects. It emphasizes the cyclicity of design, the revival of styles, and how the old and the new coexist at every moment. “

In this fertile ecosystem that promotes reflection on the future of design and architecture, intertwined with sustainability and innovation, GENCORK explores the concept of Naturology—a symbiosis between nature and technology across multiple layers. There is a growing awareness of ecology and an essential need to understand and value the essence of nature. At the same time, technology is no longer just a trend; it is a natural consequence of human evolution. In today’s context, the integration of artificial intelligence raises significant challenges for society. SPECTROOM studio has addressed this topic by creating the installation “The c(AI)rcle IV” for GENCORK, part of The c(AI)rcles Pentagon series, which has been exhibited in various cities around the world. This design/art installation, exploring the connection between artificial intelligence, (re)generative design, art, and sustainability, is made from Sofalca’s expanded black cork, a 100% natural material.
This exploratory circular structure, based on biomimetic principles, replicates organic natural phenomena, decoded by humans in co-creation with algorithmic computation and produced through CNC milling machines. It unveils new creative processes in contemporary art and design. The c(AI)rcle is a sustainable and conscious statement with a pioneering perspective of the world.
The c(AI)rcle is our planet asking to be seen with a new and holistic vision.
